Right Cube_01. Seis intervenciones en un cubo y su contexto
Turning a studio into an exhibition space to host 6 interventions that are open to the public, one per week during one and a half months, and observing how the space opens up to the outside world.
A project carried out in a studio at the end of a one-year residence programme. The title 'right cube' is a reference to the concept of the 'white cube' and counters it by opening up the space to the outside world and to the unexpected.

The series of interventions gradually open up the studio space outwards, testing different ways of forcing it to connect with the environment. The interventions entail tiny distortions of particular elements that make up the studio or its immediate surroundings, activating experimental situations in the reception and use of the space.

A series of graphic elements (specifically designed banner, posters, postcards) announce the public opening of the space and its programme of interventions, along with a weekly mail-out that includes a clue to the next intervention.

Through texts, graphics, photographs and videos, the publication «right cube_01» shows the process and the results of the project.
Situation 1. Test

A series of holes are made in the walls of the floor and the ceiling of the studio before it opens to the public, and the material that was removed to make the holes is left piled up on the floor.

Situation 2. Terrace

A sun umbrella, a table and two chairs from the sidewalk cafe across the road are placed in the middle of the studio. The bar service works whenever a visitor sits at the table.

Situation 3. Hosepipe

A hose from the adjacent courtyard is rolled out to a length of forty metres and a neighbour, after watering her plants, is invited to come to the studio and water the floor. Visitors find a puddle of water on the ground, and a hose that can be traced to the courtyard next door.

Situation 4. Sneeze

The smoke detector system is replaced with a water sprinkler. Whenever a visitor enters the space the device is activated, spraying water.

Situation 5. Tree

Fishing line is used to pull the branches of the tree that stands outside of the window, bringing the treetop into the space.

Situation 6. Window

A microphone is suspended in the middle of the street and a pair of loudspeakers are positioned opposite the open windows of the studio. The sound recorded in the street is amplified and played back into the street with a two-second delay.
