Salvar las distancias
Opening a trap door and placing a 4-meter ladder under it in order to connect the two levels of an exhibition space.
The group show «2 galeristes, 299 artistes, 23 agents…» offered an overview of the history of the gallery Estrany - de la Mota in Barcelona, taking into account artistic, historical and economic aspects. The gallery is located below ground, which means that visitors must walk down a set of stairs in order to enter.

The installation positioned an everyday object (the ladder that the gallery uses for exhibition set-ups) to draw attention to the gap between the gallery and the street and to connect the two levels by means of a trap door (which is used to bring large works into the gallery), thus creating a two-way point of access that offers a new means of entering or leaving the gallery.

The information about the work was placed on the lower level, so as to generate a certain ambiguity about the ladder and its status as an object of use.
